Most Frequently Asked Questions Regarding PAYstation® and the PAYstation® 4000
1. How do I know whether to get PAYstation® or PAYstation® 4000?

PAYstation® is a comprehensive software system designed to provide security and flexibility to accounting packages running on Windows 95/98/Me or DOS based operating systems.

PAYstation® 4000 is an electronic interface designed to intercept print signals from the computer and examine and manipulate them before the check is printed. PAYstation® 4000 is not designed for optimum performance in a Windows environment. PAYstation® 4000 can be used with most UNIX, LINUX, VMS, MPE, and OS/400 systems.

2. What is the ordering process? How soon can I expect delivery?

PAYstation® is sold directly or through a licensed distributor. To place an order, or to locate a distributor near you, call (847) 758-1234. You will be asked a series of questions dealing with your computer operating system, accounting software, check printer, and check printing security procedures. You will be asked to provide up to two signature samples that will be digitally scanned and encrypted for printing on your checks, and a sample (voided) check. Your customized PAYstation® installation disk will arrive within 7-10 days.

3. How does PAYstation® work?

PAYstation® acts as an intermediary between the accounting software and the printed results. As the software generates the check images, they are intercepted and reformatted by PAYstation®. Specifically, the amount line is replaced with the trademarked Paymaster security font (prohibiting alteration of the amount), and the signature(s) are added based on the amount of the check. Security may be set to control the user, maximum amount of check, or number of signatures required.

4. How does PAYstation® 4000 work?

Like PAYstation®, the PAYstation® 4000 acts as an intermediary between the accounting software and the printed results. However, unlike PAYstation®, the PAYstation® 4000 programming is contained in a stand-alone E-PROM that has been customized to work with a certain printer family (i.e. Hewlett-Packard LaserJet). As with PAYstation®, the amount line is replaced with the trademarked Paymaster security font (prohibiting alteration of the amount), and the signature(s) are added based on the amount of the check. Security may be set to control the user, maximum amount of check, or number of signatures required.

PAY station® 4000 must be used in a non-windows operating system, such as UNIX, LINUX, VMS MPE or OS/400 systems.

5. Will PAYstation® work with ANY accounting software that prints checks?

PAYstation® is designed to work with any Windows-based accounting package, although PAYstation® has not been certified for use on every one of them. If any problems do exist, they are typically related to printer interface rather than software issues. Installation assistance is available by calling our toll-free help desk during normal business hours. For DOS-based applications, please contact your distributor or Paymaster Technologies for more information.

6. Is there a limit on how many signatures can be printed with a PAYstation®?

Currently, PAYstation® will print up to two signatures per check based on pre-set bank authorization limits.

7. Can PAYstation® just sign checks and documents?

Currently, only the PAYstation® 4000 can be programmed to sign documents without printing an amount line.

8. My checks have the stub on top. Do I have to order special checks?

No, because PAYstation® is designed to be used in conjunction with your existing accounting software, your existing check format will be pre-defined to PAYstation® during installation.

9. Will PAYstation® 4000 handle multiple signing authorities by signature?

Yes, PAYstation® 4000 will authorize and print signatures for up to two authorities per account. Signature printing is based on check amount, which is compared to the programmed pre-set signing limits.

10. How can I demo PAYstation® to make sure it works with my Accounting Software?

Contact Paymaster Technologies at (847) 758-1234 to arrange a demonstration using your existing hardware and software.

11. What information does Paymaster Technologies need from me to program my PAYstation® 4000?

You will be asked to complete a Technical Worksheet detailing your computer-operating environment. You will also be asked questions about your internal security procedures so that a security matrix can be built and programmed into PAYstation® 4000 before you take delivery. You will be asked to provide a sample (voided) check, and multiple signature samples for digitalization. This information, which is held in the strictest confidence by Paymaster Technologies, will be kept on file for the purpose of technical support and account administration.

12. How long does it take to set up a PAYstation® 4000?

During the programming process, our technicians will use the information provided by you to approximate your check printing process. Any default variables set in the lab may be overridden during the actual installation. Assuming minimal overrides, a PAYstation® 4000 can be installed and tested in less than one hour.

13. How are signatures protected from unauthorized use?

Access to PAYstation® and PAYstation® 4000 is obtained by entering a confidential PIN known only to the user and the administrator.

14. Can anyone in my organization print checks using PAYstation® or PAYstation® 4000?

Unauthorized users will be unable to activate the features of PAYstation® or PAYstation® 4000 due to password protection. These passwords limit access and signing authority.

15. How long does it take to set up PAYstation®?

Depending on the complexity of your accounting software, PAYstation® can be installed and tested in as little as fifteen minutes.

16. Who do I call if I have a problem setting up PAYstation® or PAYstation® 4000?

During normal business hours (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Eastern Time) a toll-free installation help desk service is available at no additional charge. Off-hours assistance is available by appointment. You will be provided with the telephone number and E-mail address in your installation materials. Customized or on-site assistance and setup is also available on a time and materials basis.

17. What if my company changes authorized signatories at the bank?

Contact Paymaster Technologies as soon as possible BEFORE the change goes into effect. You will be asked to provide new signature samples and authorization limits. New programming will be created in 7 to 10 days, and sent to you in either PAYstation® or PAYstation® 4000 compatible format. An additional fee for this process will be required.

18. Will PAYstation® 4000 work with an IBM AS/400 computer?

Yes, PAYstation® 4000 has been proven to work with IBM AS/400 computers running the OS/400 operating system, as well as other mini-computers in the IBM product line.

19. What printers are recommended for use with PAYstation® 4000?

While PAYstation® 4000 will work with many printing technologies, including Ink Jet, Dot Matrix, and Laser, we have found that the most effortless installations and visually pleasing results are achieved with the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet series running in non-PCL mode.
